Covid 19
Throughout the Covid pandemic, everyone involved with Cherry Tree Care Home worked together to keep our residents safe and well. In April and May of 2020, selfless staff at the home volunteered to “live-in” with the residents 24 hours a day for a total of six weeks.
This involved leaving their loved ones at what was a very difficult and uncertain time. This demonstrated the compassion and dedication felt by our staff towards the wellbeing of our residents. This act of kindness prevented Covid-19 from coming into Cherry Tree Care Home in the first wave of the pandemic.
Orchard Care Group’s homes had ceased non-essential visits early on as a coronavirus precaution but realised that there was always the risk of staff going home and bringing it back in.
This led to the brave and selfless decision taken which saw staff saying goodbye to their families and locking down in the home with residents for six weeks.
Care home owner, Dave Atkins said: “Because we had a few residents we were particularly concerned about we knew that we couldn’t take any chances.
“We are so proud of our amazing staff for making such a difficult decision and helping in this kind and selfless way.
“We did everything we could to make it as comfortable as possible for them and thank them properly but it must have been so difficult to be away from their families for so long and we really appreciate what they have done for our residents.
“This award is for them and their families.”
Cllr Joan Lowe Lead Member for Adult Social Care on Wrexham Council said: “It’s a well-deserved award for all of the staff that have gone above and beyond in the most amazing way.
“The carers went above and beyond to protect others, sacrificing their time with their own families to provide reassurance to those in their care and to reduce the risk of infection.”
Cherry Tree Care Home was nominated, shortlisted and won the Prestigious St David Award 2021 in the Critical Care Worker category.
The St David’s Awards acknowledge varied extraordinary achievements reached by the people of Wales from all walks of life. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the real struggles faced by health and social care, in 2021 they created the Critical Care Worker Category which was awarded to Cherry Tree Care Home. This was a huge recognition for all involved and an award we are extremely proud of.
Ongoing protocols and procedures are in place at Cherry Tree Care Home to prevent and manage Covid-19 so that all our residents and staff are kept as safe as possible.
We understand the importance of feeling people “belong” and how important it is to feel safe and happy whilst living in comfort.
